Venkatesh Sharma took to Carnatic Music at an early age. His musical lessons began with Vid. T.R. Sreenivasan of Mysore and his music took a precise shape under the able guidance of Sangeetha Kalaratna Vid. Neela Ramgopal of Bangalore.
He is greatly influenced by Ustad Dilshad Khan of Bombay and picked up the art of Khayal Singing in Hindustani Classical music and now he is equipped with the knowledge of both music systems and emerged as one of the very very few jugalbandhi vocalists of the country.
